The Week That Was: Part Deux

Howdy. So how was everyone's week? 

Our heads have been down and we have been getting busy. Our seven days started with the weekend gossip which usually consists of me telling Sanoii about what I ate and watched on the television, not very interesting but when I haven't seen my wingman for two days I get a little cray-cray.

If you don't know by now the only employees at S+S are myself and Sanoii, so when it comes to putting together a range we are still quite fresh. Our new Winter Range 'Happy Campers' is coming along quite nicely. The patterns and toiles are done, the fabric selection made and now for the final products, a little photo shoot AND THEN we can finally release our Winter baby into the world! We are too excited.

Winter Moods

Wednesday came along and Sanoii and I took the afternoon off and headed into the big smoke for a lovely exhibition opening 'This Little Teapot' held at the cosy Paper Plane Gallery in Rozelle. This exhibition saw fifty fist-sized teapots done up in all their glory by some of Australia's up and coming artists. The line up included Mathew Roland, Tabitha Emma, Lauren Carney and many more fabulous artists. The exhibition is showing until May 1st, so go get your tea on and check it out.

Speaking of  Lauren Carney, last year at Brisbane Finders Keepers we met this pint sized artist and last week the postman dropped off a little something, something from her. A print which I (yes me, Six aka freckle fart from Kmart) inspired. I was so flattered that I had to order one! Yep I have myself in Carney form and I love it. So kids out there take note freckles are cool. A face without freckles is like a night with no stars. FACT! You can check her stuff here.

Last but not least you may have seen in the last blog post we had a visit from the Oh Deer Vintage folk, Rose and Michael. We had some tea and scones and talked for hours about everything and anything. We here at S+S feel like we have made some long lasting friends. YAY!

Restless.

There are a string of movies coming out/already out that we are eagerly awaiting to share our peepers with. And the new Gus Van Sant film is just another one we must add to our list. It looks lovely.

Somewhere.

The new Sophia Coppola film looks rad. Too bad its not out for another 5 months.

The Ballerina Project.

Whilst trawling, on this rainy Sunday afternoon I came across some amazing photos on this lovely blog here. As a child I was never fond of 'dancing.' All my friends around me went to dance classes, but I was most content doing other things. So I was surprised when I came across these images that I loved them so much. I think it's because there is something magical about ballerinas. How they can twist and turn so delicately just blows my mind, you see I'm as unco-ordinated as they come!

Chalk+Cheese, Chalk+Cheese!

Here is a first look at our newest range due to be released at the upcoming Finders Keepers Market in Brisbane this June! Aptley titled 'Chalk+Cheese', we got all inspired and what not, by the very differences that make us Sanoii+Six! We decided to design half the range each and come together with pieces that were entirely different, yet echoed our S+S aesthetic. We were surprised and relieved to find that we are so very much in sync (and not the 'Bye, Bye, Bye' kind of way) and attuned to the S+S peace of mind. We are so so so excited about all our new fabrics. Expect to see lots of shades of blues, random dashes of crazy hues, tentacles and some weird perforated twill that we are just salivating over! This is our favourite range so far and we hope you kids like it as much as we do...

This is just a teaser too, theres plenty more where these bad boys came from!

A big thankyou again and again, a thousand times over, to the so very talented and ever so humble Emma and to the most beautiful and fun loving models two girls with crazy clothes could ask for Jess, Sarah and Kris!

It's raining, it's pouring. . .

Ah I do love the rain, and well, recent Australian winters are renowned for it. However, unfortunately it is known for popping up for days on end at the most inopportune of times and Sunday was no exception! Planned to be the photo shoot of all photo shoots, a dear friend of ours offered to shoot our new range and had the most perfect of concepts in mind. The weather, however, had other plans. A 4am drive to the city for S+S, a 3.30am start for our darling models and a whole lot of waiting around for the odd chance the rain would stop, so we could stop gorging ourselves on endless amounts of junk food and hot drinks, happily supplied by Six, pry ourselves from our warm cars and run into the magical forest to hopefully get the perfect shot! The whole day was a challenge, but it was perfect! The photos turned out beautiful and Six and I had so much fun!!! We are so grateful to Jess, Sarah + Krissy for braving the rain in not much at all, and dancing whimsically barefoot around the forest, thanks girls we really could not have done it without you! To the dedicated make-up artists and their very early start, Eileen and Kate. And a big thanks to Emma for organising it all and being such a rad photographer, you can check out some of her work here and here!

Blog-facing.

I stumbled upon a new blog the other day. Not your average "I love fashion, cos I'm real stylish" kind of blog. Just a blog of pictures. Of people iconic in there own right. Some familiar, some known by name, some known by scandal, others I have never even heard of, but seeing their image makes me want to know more. There is no explanation to this blog. All the photos are labelled with the people in them, sometimes the location is explained, sometimes the date. Sometimes there are random pieces of art thrown in. It is just brilliant.

Overwhelmed.

I have so much to say, yet all words have lost meaning and have escaped the birdcage that is my brain. We have had such a busy and overwhelming week. So many wonderful things are happening and we have so much work to do. But it is great and we wouldn't change it for the world.

Holga for girls and boys.

Last year I received what was meant to be an ingenious present for my birthday. We had spied them on Ebay and Allan decided to surprise me for my birthday. It was a polaroid back for a holga camera. Brilliant I hear you say? Yes brilliant until you realise that the polaroid back is sans holga. And we don't own a holga. Good fun. So for christmas, 2 months later, I receive the holga camera. WOOHOO! So whilst galavanting around the green isle we had a play with the toy camera with some very fun results.

Stop motion yo...

Lately, I keep noticing little stop motion videos popping up here, there and everywhere. I know this little doozy of a film genre/technique (is that even what it is?) has been around for God knows how long, but I still find them utterly fascinating.

As more and more pop up on every man and his dog's blog, I too found myself trawling for new ones. I stumbled across this brilliant one by singer Oren Lavie. It makes me want to spend all my time in bed having wonderful dreams... Oh also my dear brother did a quick little one for the new Boogtique website too, which in my biased opinion is pretty rad.

Eugenio Recuenco.

Stumbling across this artist was a treasure in itself. A renowned fashion photographer, famous for his dramatic use of lighting and of his whimsical stagings. His photos appear almost like paintings of centuries ago. Below is a little sample. However, there are so many great photos you really should have a trawl for yourselves, here.

Hiatus.

So its been a while since we've added a little insight into the minds of sanoii+six.

And for good reason, we have been busy.
Currently on a little break before we throw ourselves into what is going to be a very jam packed 2010, we have separated ourselves with seven leagues of sea between us!
Its been very hard, but somehow we've managed.

Here's a little something, something I stumbled across whilst trawling the interweb. The always eclectic, at times fabulous Bob Dylan has an exhibition opening in London sometime this week. Bob Dylan on Canvas will show at the Halcyon Gallery from February to April.

A mere stepping stone from London I might just have to pop over and check it out!
