Life without Bob

"What can you say about a twenty-five-year-old girl who died? That she was beautiful and brilliant. That she loved Mozart and Bach. The Beatles. And me." Oliver Barret IV, Love Story 1970

Kickin' it old school circa 2007

It's been coming for a while, the bob I have called mine for the past few years has decided to leave. I loved that bob, we have had some great times. We've danced, we found a boyfriend and we even had a baby. But time has come to let her grow.

I was flicking the channels on the light box when I came across the film 'Love Story', which was exactly that. *SPOILER ALERT* Rich guy meets poor girl, they get married against the rich families will and BAM she gets leukaemia and DIES! What does this have to do with bob? Well the leading lady in the film Elizabeth Alice Macgraw had 70's hair to die for and I died. I would watch 'Love Story' over and over again just for her raven hair and the killer Winter wardrobe.

So thank you Beth for being a mega babe, I have found a new style icon and now I want your hair.

Three reasons why we love the Oil Skirt in Rusty Moss.
1. Its super comfortable made from stretch denim.
2. It's got a wicked bad velvety feel to it, in a brilliant shade of mossy yellow.
3. And it pretty much goes with everything!

Oh and it's a delightful price at only $75!

Lunchtime. . .

With 17 days left until Brisbane Finders Keepers, life at S+S HQ is a little bit hectic. With our feet heavy on the treadle trying to pump out as many pretty pieces as we can, we try and take solace for half an hour a day, eat some food and watch some trash. Today's viewing. . . the colourful world of Heathers, full of croquet, monacles and murder. Just delightful!

It's raining, it's pouring. . .

Ah I do love the rain, and well, recent Australian winters are renowned for it. However, unfortunately it is known for popping up for days on end at the most inopportune of times and Sunday was no exception! Planned to be the photo shoot of all photo shoots, a dear friend of ours offered to shoot our new range and had the most perfect of concepts in mind. The weather, however, had other plans. A 4am drive to the city for S+S, a 3.30am start for our darling models and a whole lot of waiting around for the odd chance the rain would stop, so we could stop gorging ourselves on endless amounts of junk food and hot drinks, happily supplied by Six, pry ourselves from our warm cars and run into the magical forest to hopefully get the perfect shot! The whole day was a challenge, but it was perfect! The photos turned out beautiful and Six and I had so much fun!!! We are so grateful to Jess, Sarah + Krissy for braving the rain in not much at all, and dancing whimsically barefoot around the forest, thanks girls we really could not have done it without you! To the dedicated make-up artists and their very early start, Eileen and Kate. And a big thanks to Emma for organising it all and being such a rad photographer, you can check out some of her work here and here!

Photos will be up very soon. We like to leave you in suspense. It's more fun that way!
Happy Tuesday!

P.S. Don't forget only 1 week left in our competition. So get send us an email, add us on facebook or suggest us to you friends to go into the very fancy hat (or barrel we haven't decided. We might kick it old school with a wooden barrel.)  to win 1 of 2 gift certificates for our lovely boutique. GOOD LUCK!

Goodmorning Tuesday - Narwhals are cool.

Narwhals are great.

We like to think that a whale and a unicorn got together to create this magical creature.

Here at S+S HQ we currently have a fascination with all things belonging to the deep blue. Six normally a fan of the bison family is loving these cute narwhals and I myself am more of a llama or alpaca supporter and yet I can't go past squids and jellyfish. Its not helping that our upcoming range we are working on has absolutely nothing to do with the sea and its many inhabitants. Just a little insight into our days....

'Chalk + Cheese' will be out in June.

Happy Tuesdaying!

Blog-facing.

I stumbled upon a new blog the other day. Not your average "I love fashion, cos I'm real stylish" kind of blog. Just a blog of pictures. Of people iconic in there own right. Some familiar, some known by name, some known by scandal, others I have never even heard of, but seeing their image makes me want to know more. There is no explanation to this blog. All the photos are labelled with the people in them, sometimes the location is explained, sometimes the date. Sometimes there are random pieces of art thrown in. It is just brilliant.

Here is what the elusive Anney Hall wrote in her about me section:

"If the moon smiled, she would resemble you.
You leave the same impression
Of something beautiful, but annihilating."

Sylvia Plath

Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, scaffolding at Detroit Institute of The Arts, 1932.

Alfred Hitchcock, London.

Architect Hans Heinz Lüttgen and his Wife Dora, 1926.

Go and spend hours trawling ----- here.

Squid like creatures made from umbrellas and streamers. CHECK.
Turbans, not since Swedish songbird Lykke Li sported it like Edie Beales early last year, have we seen such a triumphant use of the fashion forward turban -  and by Australians! CHECK.

Not the greatest fans of Operator Please....... but they've won this round.

From the vault.

First Sydney expedition - Hope Street Market, February 2008.

Pots of tea, bolts of fabric + jupiter bars.

Armed with snacks, cameras, notepads and determination we headed down to ye' old Sydney town in search of the funnest fabrics we could find for our latest range.

First to Alexandria, where we were initially frustrated and annoyed at the lack of business sense and human decency from some people in the fashion  industry, we were soon in brighter spirits after our lovely barista served us tea and banana bread and told us of other hidden treasures just up the road. After a quick stop at the before mentioned gems and some kind words from a complete stranger (the second of the day) we headed over to Cabramatta where the people are so delightful and the fabric is even more so! We trawled the shops for hours, until finally deciding on some fabrics that are just too good to keep hidden away for another 2 months!

One hundred and three metres later and here is a snippet of what we have in store for you kids! We're sorry its in black + white, but we couldn't give too much away! Stay tuned for more tid bits of the new range.....

Percy + Cecil.

This is just brilliant.

International Love.

I am the first to admit that Six and I get excited over the smallest of things. Just last week we were giggling like school girls at the fact that we could change our mac icons to sea creatures with cute beady eyes. That our desktop folders were no longer destined for a life of banality, that they could now look like an inflated puffer fish or a perplexed squid. But when it comes to our label, excitement is usually ten fold. Last year we were so giddy when we finally purchased our very own, very heavy, 2m long roll of cardboard for our pattern making we shouted each other hot chocolates and cake! So when it comes to more important things like range development or sales it is usually giggles and chocolate for weeks. Excitement runs deep. I think its because whether we are developing a new range or buying enormous quantities of cardboard we are taking steps closer to fulfilling our dream. Now I honestly do hate that word - dream, but no other word truly describes our ideas and plans that are near impossible, but we know we can and will do them, because we are doing things that we love to do and having fun doing them.

So this weekend we were buzzing with delight, because we received our very first international order! There was chocolate, cookies, dancing and of course giggling at the fact that a very lovely person in Denmark loves what we do.

So to that special person Thankyou so very much, your order is in the post, with a little surprise in there to boot!
